Lorette Sousie of Burlington has been collecting valentines for years – ones from over 100 years ago, ones from family and friends over generations. She never intended to start a valentine collection, according to the Burlington Free Press, but once she started to accumulate them, well, she just continued. The 19th century cards, while a bit faded, still have their prose and embroidery in tact. There are mechanical cards from the 1920s which move and some that have pop-up characters when opened. “They’re like little treasures,” Sousie said. “They took great pride in all the tiny details.” It’s Valentine’s Day at Sousie’s house all year round.
