BENNINGTON THRILLER ATTEMPTS WORLD THRILLER TITLE

by Craig Altschul

It was the third annual attempt for Benningtonites to ‘Thrill the World,” said the Rutland Herald. Ninety-five towns in 13 nations were competing for the same world title simultaneously. More than 100 young and old dressed like ghouls participated in re-enacting Michael Jackson’s music video dance routine for the six-minute 1982 hit “Thriller.” Grade school kids learned the routine in gym class; adults practiced for many nights at the Bennington Fire House where the event was held. One participant summed it up with a sign that read: “We thrilled Bennington and we thrilled the World.” A camera was there to record the dance and send it to Thrill the World Headquarters in Europe. No word yet on the winner of the title. But, we’re thrilled, too.
