BRATTLEBORO KIDS SAVE PENNIES FOR PEACE

by Craig Altschul

The students at Brattleboro’s Green Street School are saving their pennies for a good cause, said the Brattleboro Reformer. It started when they decided to raise money for schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, after having read the abridged version of Greg Mortenson’s book, “Three cups of Tea,” which tells of his travels in that area. The money will go to the Pennies for Peace program which was started to help support Mortenson’s work in Asia. The book was chosen by Brin Tucker, who teaches a literacy class, as part of the class’ year-long focus on conflict and conflict resolution. The kids have purposely not set a goal so they would be happy with whatever they got. “Anyone can find a penny and so anyone can participate,” 11-year-old Eve Pomazi said. “It’s that easy.” You can’t argue with that logic.
