COMMUNITY COLLEGE AT 81? WELL, BACHELORS DEGREE IS NEXT

by Craig Altschul

Jeanee Bernek was the oldest person at 81 years young to graduate from Community College of Vermont this year with an associate of business diploma. She was among 540 other students, the largest graduating class in the 41-year history of the college, representing all 12 locations of the college, says the Burlington Free Press. Jeanee first enrolled in college in 1971 in South Caroline, but put her education on hold. She and her husband moved to Vermont where they operated the Marshfield Village Store for almost 30 years. Her experience at the store allowed her to earn credits as part of the Assessment of Prior Learning program from her “hands on” experience. But age is no deterrent to Jeanee to further her education as she told a WCAX-TV’s reporter she is planning on working toward a bachelor’s degree and eventually a master’s degree. We’re never too old to learn.
