CURIOUS ABOUT VERMONT CURIOSITIES? GET THE BOOK

by Craig Altschul

Saxtons River author Robert Wilson recently completed “Vermont Curiosities,” a book of stories covering Brattleboro to the Northeast Kingdon. It is published by Globe Pequot Press. Many of his stories include well-known tales, events and people, said the Brattleboro Reformer, but he also has included some lesser known things like Brattleboro issuing one of the first postage stamps in the country and a profile of the last dairy farmer in Rockingham. His favorite character? Patrick Palmer who won the bid to pick up garbage in Bristol without telling the Selectman why his rates were so low: he used a horse and buggy. Wilson gathered his material from personal tours around the state, as well as on the Internet. Wilson said of his travels around the state: “You never knew how things would turn out and that was the fun of putting this together.”
