FLY THROUGH THE BIG AIR AT OKEMO

by Craig Altschul

This is Leap Year, right? Well, now you can take your own big leap at Okemo as the Ludlow ski area introduces the Amp Energy Big Air Bag. Skiers and snowboarders can launch themselves off a snowy ramp, fly into the air, and land – nice and soft – on a giant, inflated pillow similar to the kind used by movie stunt men. The Air Bag is 30 feet wide and 50 feet long and includes two inflatable chambers. The upper chamber never hits the ground while the bottom chamber absorbs the fall. The bag is at the bottom of the Lower Chief Trail. Tickets are $6 for one jump or three jumps for $15. You can leap high from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and to 3 p.m. on weekends. Don’t forget your helmet – it’s required.
