HAUNTED: REAL OR IMAGINED?

by Craig Altschul

The Whitingham B & B, known to locals as the Sawyer Mansion, is now owned by Marileen and Greg Waddell. They turned to the Berkshire Paranormal Group to try to get an explanation to reports that spirits were frequent mansion visitors. The house was the scene of a sordid unsolved murder in 1985. People have reported seeing apparitions since then, including a flying candlestick; doors opening by themselves; footsteps; whistling from a non-apparent person; and so forth, according to the Deer Valley News. The group concluded the house has some paranormal activity, but the spirits appear to be benevolent. The Waddells have graciously accepted their uninvited guests for now, but plan to make them earn their lodging by mentioning their presence on their Web site to potential paying guests, “but not on the main page. It could be a deterrent,” says Marileen.
