HOW SWEET THEY ARE

by Craig Altschul

Ah, nothing like a wedding to get people dewey-eyed. Not unlike the recent joining of Benny and his sweetheart, Molly. This wedding is, however, a bit different from most, as it involved an 88-pound chocolate moose getting hitched to a 72-pound chocolate moose, says the Rutland Herald. Both of the moose were “born” during the Bennington MooseFest, Benny during the first in 2005 and Molly the second year. Nick Monte, owner of the Village Chocolate Shoppe in Bennington, decided to combine the event with the shop’s summer promotion, Fun-tastic Fridays. He covered the 3-foot-tall, 4 foot-4 inch-long Benny and 2 foot-9 inches-high, 4 foot-5 inches-long Molly with wire mesh over which he poured molding milk chocolate. Wedding preparations included a veil for Molly, an actual Justice of the Peace who officiated, wedding bands made of white chocolate, invitations sent to other local businesses, and a reception at which limited-issue commemorative chocolate bars were given out. The question on many people’s minds was: “Are they going to have babies?” Monte said he doesn’t know yet., but he thinks if there’s another MooseFest, then maybe. There was no word on where the couple honeymooned.
