When you arrive at The Inn of The Six Mountains in Killington, you can’t help but be impressed with the beauty of the surrounding mountains and the size of the building. It’s no wonder, then, when you walk into the lobby of The Inn of the Six Mountains the first thing you see is a magnificent, two story, field stone fireplace. Walking up the stairs to the second floor to find Cedars Restaurant, I was trying to imagine what it would be like.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that Cedars is a medium sized, but well-appointed restaurant that caters to a wide variety of tastes. I was also surprised that at 730pm on a Wednesday in July that the place was almost full.
We started our meal with a trip to check out the Soup and Salad Bar. Upon returning to the table a basket of Warm Herb Rolls and Butter was waiting for us. The Salad Bar was small but everything was Fresh and Delicious. The Homemade Soup that day was Chicken and Rice with Fresh Vegetables. Outstanding! We had Mozzarella Cheese Sticks which were piping hot, and served with a wonderful Homemade Marinara. We were sans children that day but I did check out the Children’s Menu. It was one of the most extensive Children’s Menus I’ve seen outside of a “kiddie restaurant”.
The Roast Duck, a speciality, was served crispy with an Orange Sauce that was the perfect compliment. A Spicy Rice Pilaf and Fresh Cooked Vegetables accompanied the Duck as well as the Chicken Marsala, a tender, juicy, Chicken Breast with a Delicious Garlic, Mushroom, and Marsala Wine Sauce. The Garden Vegetable Ravioli was a beautiful and colorful treat. It’s offered with a choice of Marinara, Pesto, Alfredo, Oil & Garlic, or Butter. The Marinara with the Mozzarella Sticks was so good that I opted for it once again.
The portions were quite generous, everything, including the Mozzarella sticks, was served with a large cluster of Fresh Grapes. Logic would have said to skip dessert. We listned to Krista, our waitress, instead. Generous slices of Strawberry Cheescake, Hot Fudge Sundae Cheesecake, and Chocolate Truffle Cake, each served with a sprinkle of Fresh Berries. Magnificent!
Big mountains, big building, big fireplace, big portions…at surprisingly affordable prices.
