LISTEN TO THE SOUND OF LAGER

by Craig Altschul

Most people know the von Trapp family from the Sound of Music fame. Now, they also might be known for the sound of lager being brewed at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. Apparently Johannes von Trapp has been thinking about this project for 10 years, according to the Stowe Reporter. Brewing lager – as opposed to the more commonly consumed ale – is more costly and much harder due to the yeast strain and aging process. It’s expected the beer will be rolled out come January. Local restaurants and some from New York and Boston already have expressed an interest in serving the lager. “There are really no lagers like this produced in the area,” von Trapp said. The brewery will be located in the former Austrian tea room. While the brewery has a location, it doesn’t have a name – yet. Next time you watch the Sound of Music pour yourself a mug of lager. It will taste mighty good to say the yeast.
