In Vermont, we are lucky to live in a state that is able to provide us with tons of healthy local food options. As part of our final project at the BBA Mountain Campus, we wanted to bring awareness of the availability of local food in the Manchester, VT area and encourage the community to “buy local”.
There are many things that you can find at local farmers’ markets, Check out the fresh local fruits and veggies, eggs, meats, cheeses, baked goods, wines, honey, maple syrup, candy, and prepared foods (think pizza, salads, samosas!) in addition to arts and crafts, fresh flowers and plants, clothing , jewelry and more.
For more information on farmers’ markets in Vermont visit Vermont Farmers Market Association.
As part of our mission, we wanted to make sure that we give back to the community. With this is mind, we decided to donate all of the proceeds and donations, from the sale of our “make -you-own ” T-Shirts and our buy local pins (made from wood found on Mountain Campus)
to the Manchester Summer Lunch Program for children in the area.
There are several restaurants in Manchester that serve fresh products. Remember to ask, the next time you eat out, to see if your favorite restaurant buys locally.
There are also several farms in the area that offer CSA’s – Community Supported Agriculture.
For more information, including recipes we found for asparagus, bok choy, kale, spinach, and strawberries which were available at the Manchester Farmers’ market this week visit Local Food Awareness in Vermont
If you have a chance, stop by our booth at the Manchester Street Fest on 6/17/16 for more information.
Thank you,
