Rutland’s Mary Ashcroft, who is running against incumbent James McNeil for Rutland Town state representative, lives with her greatest supporter, husband Harold Billings, himself a former legislator. Harold has taken spousal support to a whole new dimension during his wife’s campaign. He and his son constructed 15-foot-high letters for a giant sign and placed it on the highest point on his farm, said the The Rutland Herald. “We didn’t have a lot of money, so we had to be creative, just like the state of Vermont has to be creative.” Not only is Mary super-sized, but she lights up the night sky for miles around with her name in halogen lights. This is one sign that’s positive in a usually negative field of political land mines.
