MOOSEFEST IS HIGHLIGHT OF BENNINGTON VISITS

by Craig Altschul

This summer marks the second MooseFest since the Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce began the promotion in 2005, said the Rutland Herald. Visitors have said they made a conscious decision to visit Bennington because “…we heard the moose were here.” That’s music to the ears of area businessess. Not only do the moose attract out of town people, but Vermonters in neighboring counties look at it as an unusual day trip. The Albany Airport has even asked to display one of the decorated “animals” in their concoursel. The life-size moose statues are all uniquely decorated by area artists who have given their statues names, such as “We Are All One” which portrays a moose family (bull, mother and baby), and a solar-powered one entitled “Moosey BB Goode and Green.” Chamber Director Joann Erenhouse said: “When people are having a hard time economically, not only is it accessible, but you don’t feel stupid to laugh and smile when they’re doing the moose tour.” besides, when was the last time you looked a moose in the face and laughed at him?
