Must See Columbus Day Weekend Events

Planning on coming to Vermont this Columbus Day Weekend and looking for something to do?  There are plenty of events going on in the state and we are going to highlight several that will take you all of the way from the Northeast Kingdom  all of the way down to Southwestern, Vermont

First we will take you through Northern and Central Vermont.

burktoberfestBurktoberfest  is taking place in Burke on 10/11/15. This fall festival is fun for all ages. Celebrate the changing of the seasons with activities like hayrides, pumpkin painting and games.  There will also be craft vendors from all over the region.  So grab the kids, a warm jacket and come and enjoy some autumn Northeast Kingdom  entertainment. This is also the last weekend where you can ride the Q Mountain Bike Park.  They will be having a Best Whip Competition, taking place at the bottom of Jester.  See how sideways you can get for a chance to win great prizes from East Burke Sports.

The 31st Annual Stowe Foliage Arts Festival  is taking place in Stowe on Friday, stowefall10/9-Sunday. 10/11.  Fall is a beautiful time in Vermont and mid- October is the best time to visit Stowe to see the wonderful fall foliage.  There will be over 200 juried artisans exhibiting their crafts as well as art, photography and specialty food products. For many, it is an annual ritual spending the day doing some early holiday shopping for some unique gifts.

The 54th Art in the Park is taking place in Rutland on Saturday 10/10/15 – Sunday 10/11/15.  This is the second oldest arts festival in New England drawing people art.pngfrom all over the Northeast.  Come spend the day or the weekend enjoying 90 to 100 fine craft vendors of all mediums. There will be live music, demonstrations, activities for the kids and a food court.  Art in the Park has been named one of “The Sunshine Artist 200 Best” and voted by the Rutland Herald’s as best of the best in the category of Best Arts Festival.

Like a good old fashion Ocktoberfest?  Killington is holding the Killington logoOctoberfest on Friday 10/9/15 – Sunday 10/11/15. Enjoy the great fall foliage while enjoying some authentic German heritage.  They will be celebrating with beer, brats, music and more. There will be keg bowling, and a Bratwrust eating contest.  Don’t miss the World Champion Stein Hoisting qualifying take place on Saturday night for a chance to win an all-expense paid trip for two for Ockoberfest  in Munich,  Germany in 2016.  Come and make this the best and the biggest Ocktoberfest that New England has ever seen.

If you are looking for something to do in the southern part of the state look no further.

WestonCraftShowWestonVermont_header.pngWeston is beautiful in the fall so don’t miss their 32nd Annual Weston Craft Show taking place at The Weston Playhouse.  This a juried exhibit of the most exceptional Vermont artisans representing everything from baskets, folk art, glass, jewelry, leather, wearable art and much more.  Come and take the opportunity to see some of the most prestigious exhibitions of contemporary crafts in Vermont.  The show is produced by the Weston Craft Show Committee with all of the proceeds supporting the preservation of Weston’s historic museums.  After the show walk around the quaint town and visit the other shops in the area.

strattonStratton Mountain Resort in Stratton is celebrating Columbus Day Weekend in style.  Join them starting Friday, 10/9/15 – Sunday 10/11/15 for a weekend full of great activities.  Have a beer at their Annual Craft Brew Fest and make sure you save your appetite for a bowl of chili at their Chili Fest.  If you are up for the challenge try your hand at The North Face Race to the Summit. Come and enjoy the beautiful colors for a weekend of fun, games, food and friends.

Craft-fair-imgFinally we head south to Dover for The 42nd Annual Arts and Crafts Festival at Mount Snow.  Get a jump on your holiday shopping with over 50+ vendors offering local artisans, specialty foods makers and more. Expect to see handmade jewelry and furniture, original works of art and you an even sample some homemade fudge!  Oh did I mention that admission is free.  After you are done with the festival head outside for their 18th Annual Ocktoberfest  where there will be plenty of beer, German food and Oom-pah music and the famous “Schnitzel Toss”  The Ocktoberfest is one of Mount Snow’s  signature festivals and was named a Top Ten Fall Event by the Vermont Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
