Nightmare in Shaftsbury

by Bubbie

I thought I was going to have some pretty juicy tidbits to share with you all once I returned from the New Year’s Eve break, but I don’t. I thought I was going to have an awesome birthday for the first time in many, many, many years… but I didn’t.

On Saturday night I received a call from an agency I do night work for, they asked me to work Sunday overnight, but promised a replacement for Monday, the 31st, (which was my birthday). Overnight we received about 12 inches of snow, so to my horror no one came to replace me. So not only was it my birthday, a birthday I had hoped to spend 1/2 and 1/2 with my family and my new guy, it was the complete New Year’s Eve from hell! I spent the day alternating between crying and screaming, and praying for a miracle. Alas, that was not to be. And to top it all off we lost power at about 7:15pm and I had no cell service. Can you even begin to imagine the nightmare???

Not only could I not reach my family but I could not reach my new guy either… both were worried but for completely different reasons as you can imagine. When I finally reached civilization on New Year’s morning it was snowing more. More snow! I could not believe my eyes. A normal 1 hour trip took me over 2 and I thought I was going to miss saying goodbye to my brother, sister-in-law and nieces Breanna & Marissa (they were traveling back home to North Carolina) but they waited for me which I was very grateful for.

So, to make along story even longer… even though I didn’t get to spend the holiday doing what I wanted to do, I can be grateful that if I couldn’t be satisfied and drunk at least I was safe and warm! (just kidding 🙂 about the satisfied bit – Dad!)

Happy New Year 2008, and may it be a joyous, successful, and healthy year for everyone!

Ciao for now… Bubbie & Me
