OUTGOING GOVERNOR BRINGS DOG, PONY TO NEWS CONFERENCE

by Craig Altschul

Outgoing Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas gave the press who have covered his administration a literal dog and pony show at his last news conference, says The Burlington Free Press. The media jokingly referred to his many conferences as a “dog and pony show” because of the variety of people Douglas brought to the podium to highlight his policies and programs. Annie, the labrador, and Iroc, the miniature pony, went to Montpelier to help the Gov. say good-bye. “We will end this tenure with a literal ‘dog and pony show,'” Douglas remarked. “They’re certainly better behaved than the Legislature.” Later, the media was treated to Kool-Aid, which the Gov. invited the them to drink, in a reference to his arguments into which the press did not often buy. Douglas leaves office Jan. 6.
