by Craig Altschul

Phineas, a stray cat, was found by Johnson State’s professor Susan Green, says Lamoille’s <INews & Citizen. He had been shot several times, including one shot that blew away his lower jaw. Veterinary bills exceeded $3,000 even though veterinary surgeon Dr Kurt Schultz of Williston donated his services. Dr. Schultz stabilized the right jaw with a metal plate; the left side will not be reconstructed, but Phineas still will be able to eat and drink and have a normal life. But more money was needed for Phineas’ post-surgical expenses. Green’s colleagues stepped into action and sent out Facebook messages to their friends to help raise the money. People from around the country responded, raising close to $2,000. Phineas, now the celebrity cat, was featured on Burlington’s WCAX channel 3 garnering a spot on the evening news. All he needs now is time to heal and a good home.
