PROFESSOR DOG TEACHES SCIENCE CLASS

by Craig Altschul

Classroom science lessons, particularly of the circulatory system, usually don’t rank first with elementary school kids. But, Pongo is trying his best to change that attitude, says the Burlington Free Press. Not that the friendly dog is hoping to turn this around all by himself. He has brought his human helpers, veterinarians Elizabeth Miguel, Jenny Brown, and Donald Brown, along for assistance. Fifth-grade students at Mater Christi School in Burlington see an EKG of Pongo’s beating heart on the screen. They also get to listen to his heart with a stethoscope. Pongo is used frequently by the Browns to help teach about the body. Where was Pongo when we had to learn all that boring circulatory stuff?
