RUTLAND’S SANTA KEEPS A SECRET

by Craig Altschul

Who doesn’t appreciate an anonymous, unexpected gift of money during the holiday season? Particularly in this economy. Along comes Rutland’s Secret Santa, who gives townspeople that gift in the true spirit of Christmas. This is Santa’s second year of enclosing up to $50 in a Christmas card and giving it to unsuspecting people, said The Rutland Herald. Santa keeps the paper informed of his progress, but stresses he wants to remain anonymous. One of his notes reads: “I am not anything more than a cog in the wheels of this city and state, no different than thousands of others who work each day to make ends meet and to meet the ends.” Maybe so, but thanks, Santa. You’re the best.
