Thirteen Middlebury students recently produced a series of drawings and miniature models they believe could fill the town’s desire for an art structure for the new roundabout on Main Street, says the Addison County Independent. The town Centerpiece Committee, responsible for gathering ideas, said the art should be prominent, preferably vertical, illuminated at night, and visable from a safe distance from the traffic, made from construction material that’s permanent and durable, and visually directs drivers around the roundabout. This exercise was part of the students’ Introduction to Architectural Design spring course at the college. Many of the entries incorporated town and regional history. The designs can be viewed at the National Bank of Middlebury’s Main Street Branch for during June.
