Taste of the Town: Spring Menu at Daily Planet

If you’re one of the many Vermonters who enthusiastically applauded the end of winter (it is actually over, right?!), we’ve got one more reason for you to be excited. New season = new menus. All around town, chefs and mixologists are bringing out the best new Spring flavors and ingredients. Gone are the hearty, heavy dishes of the Winter – in with the light, fresh, zesty tastes of Spring. Now don’t get us wrong, we love those warm Winter meals, but one of the best parts of living in Vermont are those beautiful changes that come with each season. We stopped by Daily Planet on Center St. to see what new additions they have in store for us this Spring. 

1. Grilled Baby Lamb Chops

These amazingly tender lamb chops are complimented perfectly with a bulgur wheat, lemon tabouli salad, served with local feta, onion, tomato, mint, and topped with a creamy tzatziki sauce.

2. Grilled and Chilled Baby Octopus Salad

Brined for two days, then blanched and grilled, these baby octopi are served atop a bed of arugula and granny smith, red pepper, red onion slaw. Dressed with a roasted fennel vinaigrette, this dish is unbelievably light and tasty.

3. Pollo Fricassee

A Puerto Rican classic, the chicken in this dish is cooked in a mixture of different herbs, spices, and red wine for eight hours, then served over wild rice with house plantain chips.

4. Cajun Popcorn

Daily Planet Restaurant BurlingtonAs Co-Executive Chef Lo McGrath says, “You can take the girl out of the south, but can’t take the south out of the girl.” These flash fried crawfish tails are the perfect finger food and great for sharing – served with an absinthe aioli and hot pepper puree. Amazing.

5. Apricot-Glazed Smoked Wings

Last, but certainly not least, these are the most unique wings being served in Burlington right now, hands down. Smoked with Vermont maple saplings for three to four hours, then lovingly rubbed with apricot glaze and sprinkled with peppadew relish, and served with a jalapeño, cheddar polenta cake that is topped with dressed greens. These are an ASAP order, so get to it.
