The New American Grill – The Wait is Over!

by Vermont.com Staff

They say that “good things come to those who wait”. Well, those of us who live in the Londonderry area have been waiting long enough. Max Turner, formerly of the Inn at Weston, had an idea. Open a “family” restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner and have good food at reasonable prices.

Max, you opened it and we will comeàagain and again.

Some member of my family has been there almost every week since the New American Grill opened a couple of months ago. We’re not the only ones who have developed this addiction. On our third visit we bumped into some other locals who had already been there several times.

The food is not just good, it’s phenomenal!

The Inn at Weston is one of my favorite places for dinner but not necessarily the place you can take the family at the last minute if you’ve worked late or you forgot that your son was bringing eight of his best friends from college home for the weekend. The New American Grill is just the place.

Reservations are not accepted so just show up. Breakfast is served starting at 6:30am during the week (8:00am on weekends) and dinner is served until 9:00pm (10:00pm on Friday and Saturday). There is a limited menu between meals but there’s a lot of time to “just show upö and get some great food.

The menu is extensive with appetizers (Baked Brie with Artichoke Dip and Steamed Maine Mussels in Chablis-Garlic Butter are favorites), nightly specials, vegetarian options (the Eggplant Cutlet Parmesan was so good that two days after I had it for dinner I went back and had the Eggplant Parmesan Hoagie for lunch). Great salads (Grilled Steak Caesar Salad, Smoked Rainbow Trout). Need “comfort foodö? Try the Turkey Pot Pie.

The kids’ menu has the typical foods: Chicken Fingers, Hot Dogs, Cheese Pizza, Cheese Quesadillas, Pasta and Red Sauce but with “adult pleasingö quality. Max’s Mac and Cheese is so good that my kids won’t eat it, even when he leaves off the parsley. Their loss is my gain. You don’t have to be under 12 years old to order from the kids’ menu, but if you are, your meal will come with a scoop of Wilcox ice cream and a soda, all for $4.95.

Seriously fresh seafood is one of Max’s passions and it shows in the variety and quality of his seafood dishes. Pan Seared Fillet of Sole, Seared Ahi Tuna, Fire and Ice Prawns, Spicy Shrimp Scampi are among a few we have tried and loved and there’s always a Fresh Catch of the Day.

Great desserts and a full bar round out the meal. The dΘcor is crisp and clean and the high ceilings create an airy open feel.

The New American Grill is located at the intersection of Routes 11 and 100 in the Mountain Marketplace in Londonderry, VT. Call 802-824-9844 for more information.

Upscale food in a family friendly environment. I guess now all the folks from Manchester, Stratton, and Ludlow will be driving to “our” place for dinner.
