VERMONT’S NORTHEAST KINGDOM OFFERS WINTER WELCOME

by Craig Altschul

Lots of folks will tell you they love coming to the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont for the winter vacations and getaways. No wonder. The scenic countryside is special, the lodging and dining everything you think “Vermont” should mean, and the skiing, snowboarding, cross-country, and snowmobiling scene is ideal. Choose to ski at Jay Peak and Burke Mountain, two of the state’s favorite resorts; seven cross-country ski areas. There’s even the National Geographic Geotourism Program. Perhaps then Vermont Senator George Aiken said it best in 1949: “This is such beautiful country up here  - it should be called the Northeast Kingdom.”
