Clara Rebecca Koffman, 98, known affectionately as “Bubbe,” died at her home in Manchester March 3 after a long illness. Bubbe’s son Mark is publisher of Vermont.com.
Bubbe was born in Buenos Aires, the daughter of Adolph and Chippa Mokotoff Singband, who had fled anti-Semitism in Eastern Europe. The family soon moved to New York City. Bubbe’s husband, I. Henry Koffman, died in 1962. Bubbe worked in her husband’s grocery stores, as a buyer for Federated Department Stores, and at Mark’s restaurant, The Ships, in Connecticut. She has lived with her family in Manchester since 2002.
Bubbe is survived by her brother Larry Singband and his extended family, Mark and Sandra Koffman, and grandchildren Adam Koffman, Krissy Fredette, Emet, and Baruch Koffman. Donations in her memory may be made to Mountain Valley Medical Center of Londonderry, Neighbor to Neighbor of Manchester, Manchester Health Services, Israel Congregation of Manchester – the Betty Kamber Education Fund, Congregation Beth El of Bennington, or the charity of your choice.
All of us at Vermont.com send our condolences to the Koffman’s extended family. We agree wholeheartedly with Mark when he says, “anyone who knew Bubbe loved her.”
