What’s Happening at Burlington Parks in June

If you are in the Burlington, Vermont area during the month of June, there are a number of events taking place in the Burlington public parks you might want to check out. The Burlington Department of Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront oversees 35+ parks for a total of over 550 acres of open space.  With all that space, there is a lot of room for every kind of special event – some of which are planned by the department and some planned by outside groups.

Here’s what you will find in June:
Burl_watercolorJune 3  Watercolor Workshop in Burlington’s Urban Wilds with Katherine Monstream
Organized by the Burlington Master Naturalist Program, this workshop will get you in touch with the beauty of Lake Champlain through watercolor. The event is free, but you must bring your own art supplies. To be held at the Shelter at North Beach.

June 9  Learn To Ride Bike Class
Organized by Local Motion, children ages 3 to 7+ will be taught to ride a bike in a stress-free manner with the balance method. There will be other activities for the kids as well. Check the Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront website for details and times. Free to Local Motion members, $20/family if pre-registered and $40/family on day of event. Takes place at Leddy Park.

BurlParks_BeachBitesJune 13 Leddy Park Beach Bites
Who doesn’t like a picnic outdoors in the summer? Plus what mom or dad wouldn’t love a night when they don’t have to cook? Leddy Park Beach Bites offers the perfect solution. Held every other Wednesday all summer, you dine on delicious food truck delights, let the kids play (there is even a bounce house), and maybe even sample the local beer at the beer garden. 5:30 to 8:00 pm in Leddy Park.

June 17 & June 24 Burlington Concert Band Summer Series
Bring a picnic and a lawn chair and enjoy free concerts all summer long from the Burlington Concert Band. Beginning June 17, the concerts will continue every Sunday until August 12. There will also be a concert Tuesday, July 3 from 7:00 pm until the fireworks begin. Concert start times are 7:00 pm in Battery Park. (An exception, the July 8 concert begins at 3:00 pm and will also include the Middlesex Concert Band from Wakefield, MA.)

Burl_lungJune 21 Lung Force Walk
Join the American Lung Association on June 21 for the Burlington Lung Force Walk. Teams and individuals welcome. Battery Park, 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

June 23  Burlington Wine & Food Festival
The culmination of a week-long celebration of food and wine at various Burlington venues, the festival wraps up with the Grand Tasting in Waterfront Park. Purchase tickets to session one or two and experience local foods with perfect wine pairings for a delectable experience.

June 23  Drawing in Place
Second in the series brought to you by the Burlington Master Naturalist Program, this workshop is a 2-hour introduction to drawing. Bring your own materials or use the paper and pencils provided. This event will be held at Burlington High School from 9:30 – 11:30 am.
