WINNER SAYS ‘IT’S IN THE BAG’

by Craig Altschul

Hannaford supermarket in Burlington is the home of the national grocery bagging champion Krystal Smith, says the Burlington Free Press. Smith, 24, who hails from Milton, filled three grocery bags in 38 seconds. There was no stopping her once she won the Vermont contest. Store manager Al Lesage concurred: “After she won the Vermont contest I totally knew she had the confidence and the demeanor to do very well at the nationals.” Smith won $10,000 and an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Smith is known for more than bagging throughout the store, as a service leader who helps train others in the basics of bagging, makes posters, helps with seasonal displays, and decorates cakes. Sounds like an all-around champ.
