WINTER CARNIVAL UNDERWAY AT STOWE; ICE CARVING EVENT SATURDAY

by Craig Altschul

Look for the nation’s top amateur and professional ice carvers to strut their stuff Saturday, Jan. 19 at Stowe. The event is part of the resort community’s annual 10-day Winter Carnival. Head to the Spruce Peak Plaza between noon and 4 p.m. to watch the creations in progress. An awards ceremony and live music party starts at 7 p.m. inside Spruce Camp. Theme of this year’s carving contest is “circus,” but this is serious stuff, so they won’t be clowning around, so to speak. The Stowe Winter Carnival is a happening that actually began in 1922 – almost a century ago.
